Our Mission

Westside Compassionate Ministries is a HOME in West Medford for NEIGHBORHOOD youth to find REFUGE, receive WHOLISTIC CARE, and EXPERIENCE GOD'S LOVE.

Home: Where you're uniquely seen, heard, and loved; part of the FAMILY.

Neighborhood: The families, schools, and homes surrounding the Yellow House.

Refuge: A safe place to relax, rest, and grow in a not so safe culture.

Wholistic Care: Care for the whole child: Physical, Mental, Emotional, and Spiritual.

Experience God's Love: We learn about God, but even more encourage kids to come to KNOW and EXPERIENCE God's love for themselves.

Our Vision

The driving metaphor for our ministry is that of a harbor or haven. As sailors find refuge in a harbor, so we want our home to be a haven for youth from the unpredictable storms of life and the unstable culture around. As ships enter a harbor to receive the supplies they need and pick up new crew members, so we want our home to be a place where youth receive wholistic care-mind, body and soul-as well as make deep friendships with peers and adults that they can carry with them for years to come. As harbors are centers for the exchange of ideas, services, and cultures, so we want our home to be a meeting place for the neighborhood and the greater Christian community to mutually share life and gifts. And as the lights of port cities can be seen from miles away, so we want our home to be a beacon that, through every service it provides, illuminates the beautiful Way, Truth, and Life found in Jesus.

Our History

Westside Compassionate Ministries, or “The Yellow House" as most of the kids call it, is located in West Medford next door to Washington Elementary School. The ministry started in 1999 by the Larson family. The Diaz family directed Westside from 2011 to 2019. In June of 2019, the Heideggers took over stewardship of the house and ministry. We partnered with a local ministry to build a brand new two-story ministry building adjacent to the old home. Now the Heidegger family lives in the little yellow house and the students get the new building all to themselves.
